Split System air conditioner - the combination of an outdoor unit and an indoor unit. This is the most common type of HVAC system.

An indoor unit - which contains the evaporator component.
An outdoor unit - which houses the compressor and condenser components.

Split system heat pumps can both heat and cool, in fact most ductless mini-split systems are Heat pumps. That means they can both heat and cool your home, eliminating the need for a separate heater.
